Orthostatic Intolerance Specialist in Washington

In-Person Appointments in Bellingham, WA + Telehealth Across Washington State

Orthostatic Intolerance (OI) is one of the most misunderstood autonomic disorders. Many people with dizziness, rapid heart rate, lightheadedness, fatigue, or fainting are told their symptoms are “just anxiety” or “normal”—even when they impact daily life.

At Galene Health, Orthostatic Intolerance is taken seriously.
You receive thoughtful, evidence-based evaluation and a personalized stabilization plan from a provider who understands autonomic disorders.

I’m Katherine Bachenberg, DNP, and I provide specialized Orthostatic Intolerance care to patients throughout Washington State — either in person at my Bellingham clinic or via secure telehealth statewide.

🌿 What Is Orthostatic Intolerance?

Orthostatic Intolerance occurs when your body struggles to regulate heart rate, blood pressure, and blood flow when changing positions — especially from lying or sitting to standing.

This can create sudden symptoms such as:

  • dizziness

  • feeling faint

  • rapid heart rate

  • weakness

  • nausea

  • brain fog

  • chest pressure

  • inability to tolerate standing

  • fatigue or “crashes”

These symptoms are physiological and real — not psychological.

Orthostatic Intolerance commonly overlaps with:

  • POTS

  • Dysautonomia

  • Neurocardiogenic syncope

  • Long COVID autonomic changes

  • Hypermobility / Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

🌿 Common Signs of Orthostatic Intolerance

You may be experiencing OI if you notice:

  • Lightheadedness when standing

  • Heart racing after position changes

  • Difficulty standing in lines or hot showers

  • Feeling drained or shaky after minimal activity

  • Sudden “head rushes”

  • Blurry vision or tunnel vision

  • Nausea on standing

  • Unexplained fatigue

  • Cold or discolored hands/feet

If these symptoms improve when you lie down, Orthostatic Intolerance is likely involved.
